Parks and recreation commission discusses field usage Page 4 • Wednesday, March 25, 2015 • The Hammonton Gazette REC, from Page 1 soccer. We always use the school fields. Unfortunately in the town we live in, it’s no one’s fault, we do not have a facility to provide year-round service… The problem I have this year, [the] soccer association decided in September that they were going to have a rec Spring league on top of their travel season… Again they should have came here, don’t leave you in the dark, don’t leave town council in the dark, don’t leave the Little League in the dark… This year, soccer went to the school board first secretive[ly],” Bianchini said. “As far as communication, I went to the school because I knew that the town had, I met with [Hammonton Public Works Manager / Business Administrator] Jerry [Barberio]… He let me know what the schedule was going to be for the irrigation and try to figure out how to make it work. And unfortunately with what he needs to do with the fields, there is no way that we could use those fields… I went to the school on a Thursday morning to meet with Dr. Dan Blachford and Sam Mento and Frank LaSasso to see what we could do for fields. I sent Mark a personal email apologizing for the confusion that we created, I could see how he thought it was something secretive because it was a meeting that was just for soccer with the school board. The letter I submitted, I did not ask for the band field, I didn’t ask for the JV baseball … The school said to me, this is the area we want to give you … I never want to have tension with the Little League … I have kids in the program so for me to try to take something away in baseball is crazy because then I would be taking them from my own kid… I mean it’s not something we should be antagonistic about. It’s something where we need to work together and hopefully going forward we can do that,” Massey said. It was decided that all applications will be approved by the Hammonton Parks and Recreation Commission for spring field use and a representative from the Hammonton School Board be present for the meeting. This will take place once a year at the Hammonton Parks and Recreation Commission regular monthly meeting. Bianchini informed council that the press box renovations are still taking place. Since the January meeting, it has received new dry wall. The Pinelands Commission sent a letter to the town regarding the Hammonton Dog Park about the 1,500 feet that was disturbed by the underbrush mowing. It was reported that Green Acres has a new grant program for recreational trails. The grant would allow money for maintenance and restoration for existing trails, purchasing trail construction equipment, signage, shelters and water. The trails would connect Moss Mill Road to where the soil pile is. Barberio asked the commission for their approval to submit an application at the town council meeting on March 23. “It would be set up so that instead of threequarter mile trial that’s used quiet a bit, we can expand that to 1.5 to two miles of trail,” Barberio said.
