OBITUARIES

Joseph E . Berenato Sr .

Joseph e . Berenato Sr ., 83 of Hammonton , died Monday , March 12 , 2018 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after a brief but valiantly-fought illness .

Joe was born on November 30 , 1934 to Joseph and emma ( Hummel ) Berenato in Hammonton , the youngest of three children . He graduated from Hammonton High School in 1952 and earned his B . S . in mechanical engineering from New Jersey institute of technology in 1956 . Joe met his love , Henrietta — mother of his four children , in 1958 and they corresponded during the time of his enlistment in the United States army . He served at aberdeen Proving Ground , Maryland , and was then transferred to USar Hq ii U . S . army Corps in Camp Kilmer , New Jersey . they married on May 20 , 1960 . Joe was an accomplished mechanical engineer working in the supermarket industry , having worked for Pantry Pride , Superfresh and Giant foods . Later in his career he moved into sales where his contacts and “ little blue book ” were very sought after . Joe was a good , loyal friend to many and was always willing to help someone out or give someone a ride . He was also very active with not only his high school alumni , but also his college fraternity brothers in the alpha Phi Delta fraternity . He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years . the life of the party , Joe was an excellent dancer . He was also a proud member of the McDonald ’ s breakfast crew and the Maplewood lunch club .

Joe is survived by his loving fiancé , Beverly Wechsler ; children , annette ( Jim ) Posey of Cape Coral , fla ., regina ( Girard Jr .) tell of Hammonton and Joseph Jr . ( Deborah ) of Bear , Del .; grandchildren , Bobby ( Jamie ) LaManna , Daniel and Shannon Pittman , Girard and Sean ( Victoria ) tell , Sarah and emily Berenato and great grandchildren , zooey , Kenley and tiana ; Beverly ’ s children , Jay Onasch , Brett ( Lana ) and erin ( Blake ) Smith , and grandchildren , ryland , Lilah , Scarlitt and Noah ; special nieces , Patricia Cafone and Brenda ( Mike ) DiVirgilio , other nieces and nephews , and many friends , including lifelong close friends , Joe and roseann Lucca and ann Lewellen . Joe was predeceased by his parents , his wife , his sisters , anna ebinger and Marie Dickinson , and his beloved son Charles . family and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on friday , March 16 at Mary of Mt . Benjamin Moya

Benjamin Moya , 56 of Hammonton , died on Monday , March 12 , 2018 in atlanticCare regional Medical Center , Mainland Division .

Born in Hammonton , he was a lifelong resident . Benny will be remembered for his humor , his amazing generosity and for living life to the fullest .

He was predeceased by his father , Serapio Moya . Benny is survived by his mother , Juana Moya ( nee Perez ); his brother , Jaime Moya , both of Hammonton ; three sisters , rosa Moya of Hammonton , Lucy Moya of Delaware , Nidia Moya of Galloway and many nieces , nephews , cousins and friends . a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on friday , March 16 , 2018 , in St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . anthony of Padua , 285 route 206 , Hammonton . Burial followed in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery . arrangements made by Carnesale funeral Home .

Michael Eugene McCabe

Michael eugene McCabe , age 62 of Hammonton , ( Born on august 25 , 1955 in Philadelphia ) died suddenly on tuesday , March 13 , 2018 at atlantiCare Hospital in atlantic City with his wife and children at his bedside .

Michael was an avid Philadelphia sports fan ; however the 76 ’ ers held a special place in his heart . Michael made friends everywhere he went ( i mean , literally eVerYWHere he went ). He truly enjoyed talking and learning about others . Michael was very proud of his involvement with the Masons and was a student of the Civil War . Michael retired from the City of atlantic City , after more than 30 years of employment . His last position in atlantic City was that of Boardwalk inspector , which he called a dream job . Michael went by many names , Mike , Mikey , Yoda , Homer , Skipper , ambassador of atlantic City , Pop-Pop , but his favorite name was Dad .

Michael will be dearly missed by his wife of 40 years , Debra McCabe ; his daughter , Kara ( Jerry ) Barker ; his sons , Joseph McCabe , and Michael McCabe ; additionally Michael leaves behind six grandchildren , Crystal , thomas , Brayden , Jackson , Brooklyn , and rowan . Michael also leaves sisters , brothers , in-laws , nieces and nephews . Michael will be remembered by his outgoing warm nature , big smile , and his zest for life . HaMMONtON — Police responded to a call about a suspicious person at 10:30 p . m . on March 14 , Hammonton Police Lt . Kevin friel said .

“ there was a pedestrian stop on S . egg Harbor road and Harbor Drive ,” friel said .

Juan Negron , 29 , of Mullica twp ., was stopped and found to have active warrants from Hammonton for $ 2,100 , Berlin Boro for $ 1,000 and Mullica twp . for $ 100 , friel said . friel said Negron was unable to post and was transported to the atlantic County Jail . Sgt . Sam angello iii was the arresting officer , friel said . in other police news , on March 17 at 3:40 p . m . in the prime block of the N . White Horse Pike , Nicholas Startare , 54 , of Lindenwold was stopped for maintenance of lamps , no mirrors and failure to exhibit his registration , friel said .

Former Midway Professional Ctr ., gas station demolished

On March 19 , the sign for the Midway Professional Center , with the word “ Midway ” in capital letters made out of the signage of the former diner , remained on the Bellevue avenue side of the property . the “ Y ” had fallen off the sign but was propped against it . the majority of the former gas station and office building were demolished by Monday afternoon . the Midway Professional Center was converted from the vacant Midway Diner into a professional building in the 1990s .

Originally built by John “ Shoes ” DeMarco and Joseph DeMarco in the mid-20th Century , the Midway Diner was most likely named because of its location on the White

Pedestrian arrested by police

Horse Pike in Hammonton , roughly halfway between Philadelphia and atlantic City . the spot was a good stopping point for tourists on their way to and from the Jersey Shore . at one time , Lawrence “ Larry ” DeMarco owned the gas station at the location , which was known as DeMarco ’ s Shell during his many years of ownership .

DeMarco also served on the Hammonton Board of education for a long tenure .
