and resurfacing of the Hammonton
Middle School (HMS) track.
the meeting was called to order
by John Lyons, as board president
Sam Mento iii and vice president
thomas attanasi were absent. also
absent from the meeting were
members al Pangia and John
thomas.
the meeting started with a pres-
entation on the latest happenings at
the early Childhood education
Center (eCeC) given by eCeC
principal Dr. Darla Salay.
to begin her presentation, Salay
introduced a group of students in-
volved in the eCeC violin pro-
gram along with their teacher, Paul
enuco. the students, equipped
with child-sized violins, which
were funded by the Hammonton
Home and School association,
performed a variety of musical ex-
ercises they’d been practicing.
“it is all research-based. the vi-
olin is a really good instrument for
young children because they’re
sized. these violins are one-eighth-
size of a full-size violin … So,
playing an instrument in early
childhood is extremely effective,
not only the fact that there’s pos-
ture and balance, but to have that
sound on your shoulder right next
to your ear is profoundly effec-
tive… this is the perfect instru-
ment for our children in early
childhood,” enuco said.
He went on to thank Salay for al-
lowing the program to take place
and the Home and School associ-
ation for financially supporting the
program by purchasing the violins.
enuco said he hopes the program
will continue and grow.
among other things, Salay dis-
cussed a new counselor at the
eCeC, Katelyn D’errico.
“i’d like to thank [Hammonton
Superintendent of Schools robin]
Chieco and the board of education
this evening for approving a new
counselor for grades preschool
through second grade. Our coun-
selor, Ms. Katelyn D’errico brings
enthusiasm and a wealth of ideas to
