Salvatore “ Sal ” Velardi

Salvatore a . Velardi Jr ., age 62 of Hammonton , died peacefully on March 6 , 2018 at atlantiCare Medical Center in Galloway .

Born in Philadelphia , he graduated from Hammonton High School in 1973 . Sal worked for the town of Hammonton Wastewater treatment Plant for 33 years . He was very active in coaching youth sports and loved performing as elvis . a true , loyal Philadelphia sports fan , Sal watched his beloved eagles win the Super Bowl .

Sal was a member of the Hammonton Lions Club for 33 years . He was King Lion from 1992-1993 and 2014 – 2015 , District Governor 2000 – 2001 , and State Council Chairman in 2006 . He was honored by receiving the Harold Nutter award , the Gene Polgar fellowship award and the Melvin Jones Progressive award — the highest honor from Lions international . He was a member of the Hammonton Board of education for 18 years .

He was predeceased by his parents , Salvatore , Sr . and Sarah ( romeo ). Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years , Kathy ( raffa ); his daughter , Kimberly zuccarello and her husband Matt ; and his son , Michael Velardi and his wife Dana , all of Hammonton . Loving grandfather of Luke Velardi and rocco zuccarello . He will be sadly missed by his sisters- in-law Dorothea and freda raffa , his nieces , nephew , cousins and friends . family and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on friday , March 9 at St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish-St . Joseph Church . Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hammonton . in lieu of flowers , the family requests donations to the Hammonton Lions Club P . O . Joy Canino Cravener

Joy Canino Cravener , 74 , died on December 15 , 2017 , at her home in Berkeley Springs , W . Va .

Joy was born on february 12 , 1943 , in Pittman to Peter and Margaret ( Horn ) Canino . Joy grew up in Hammonton . She graduated from St . Joseph High School in Hammonton in 1960 .

Mother , wife , and life of the party , Joy loved entertaining , decorating , cooking , and arts and crafts . She cherished spending time with family and friends and loved to tell stories with just a little embellishment ! Joy ’ s infectious personality was contagious and made everyone feel comfortable . there has never been , nor will there ever be , anyone quite so special as Joy . Joy was preceded in death by her parents , Peter and Margaret ( Peggy ) Canino . Joy is survived by her husband , Lloyd ( Bud ) Cravener of Berkeley Springs , W . Va .; her sons , Gene , ( Kay ) Piscitelli of raleigh , N . C . , Stephen , ( Camille ) Piscitelli of Miami Beach , fla .; step-daughters , Kelly , ( Mark fell ) Hax of Laurel , Md ., and Kim Champagne of Gambrills , Md .; her grandchildren , Sarah , Michael , Joseph , Danielle , Vincent , Jordan , Connor , tyler , Bailey , Sydney , Melissa , and Kari and her great-grandchildren Dylan and Gracie . a memorial service will be held on March 24 , 2018 , at 12:30 p . m . at Carnesale funeral Home , 202 S 3rd St , Hammonton , NJ 08037 . the family will be greeting friends and relatives at noon on March 24 , 2018 . entombment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery . in lieu of flowers , the family requests memorial donations be made to american Cancer Society . arrangements made by Carnesale funeral Home .

Santos “ Rocky ” Alverio Jr .

Santos “ rocky ” alverio , Jr ., 66 of Hammonton , died suddenly on friday , March 9 , 2018 in Hammonton . Born in Chicago , he was raised in New York and lived in Hammonton for the past 50 years .

He was a retired tailor from Castleford tailors in Williamstown and Collings Lakes . He was also an active volunteer for Hammonton first . Mr . alverio was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and played in the Hammonton Men ’ s Softball League for many years . He could be found on a daily basis helping his son at funky Cow Cafe . rocky ’ s greatest fulfillment was his devotion to his grandson who he supported in every aspect of his life , especially at sporting events . He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and extended family .

He is survived by his daughter , Melanie alverio and grandson , Mason Javier Dorsey ; his son , richard “ ricky ” alverio ; his father , Santos alverio Sr ., all of Hammonton ; one brother , George alverio and his wife , Maria Cruz of Millville . He was predeceased by his mother , Carmen Luisa rosa . funeral Services will be held Saturday , March 17 , 2018 at 11 a . m . at the Carnesale funeral Home , 202 S . third St ., Hammonton where a viewing will be held from 9 a . m . until 11 a . m . Born and raised in Long Branch , NJ , she graduated from Middletown High School . Betty worked as a graphic artist for Stockton University .

HaMMONtON — a fast-moving fire reported to the Hammonton Police Department at 3 p . m . on March 9 did significant damage to a home located on Bella Vita Court owned by Joan Morris , Hammonton Police Chief robert Jones said .

“ We believe it ’ s a non-suspicious or accidental fire . We are looking at incense that was lit in the garage that may have started the fire . that is the initial conclusion ,” Jones said . there were three individuals in the house at the time of the fire , including the Morris ’ daughter Lisa Morris and Lisa Morris ’ 13-yearold daughter , Jones said . there were no reported injuries , Jones said .

Hammonton Volunteer fire Department , Collings Lakes fire Department and other departments and atlantiCare eMS responded to the scene in addition to the HPD , Jones said .

Det . Jared Baglivo was the investigating officer , Jones said .
