TASTE, from Page 1
an amazing deal for both parties
when you consider the amount of
delicious food available for tasting. There is seating available for
guests as they make their way
around the gym. The event serves
a great way to catch up with family
and friends while enjoying the
samples. Drinks are provided by
Kramer Beverage.
Some of this year’s participating
eateries include: Illiano’s Ristorante, Kitchen 19, Marcello’s,
Maplewood Inn and many more.
Appropriately, the Hammonton
High School Culinary Class will
also have their own table and serve
freshly-made samples.
The event is held to benefit the
Hammonton Education Foundation. The goal of the foundation is
simple: find a way to raise and distribute funds and other resources
with the purpose to enhance the
quality of education for students in
the Hammonton School District.
Their work is outlined by three
goals. The first is to raise funds to
enhance the quality of educational
programs. Second, they aim to encourage creativity within the staff
by supporting unique projects
through different grants. Lastly is
the promotion of enrichment activities to benefit the overall student
body.
Money raised from Taste of the
Town is put directly back into the
education foundation. Throughout
its 12 years, Taste of the Town has
raised more than $125,000.
“The students come and help
too, so they’re very involved in the
fundraising,” foundation vice president Joanne Pullia said.
If endless samples of hometown
food didn’t already sound appealing enough, there will also be entertainment provided, usually done
by Hammonton High School students. During the years, guests
have been treated with special
singing and dancing performances
that help to keep the upbeat environment even more cheerful. A
silent auction will also take place
before the event is finished and
offer the opportunity to purchase
some exciting new items while
also benefiting a great cause.
Foundation president Carol Orsi
said she is excited about the opportunity to share in the town’s celebration of its 150th anniversary.
“We are excited about our 13th
year. The event is going to really
highlight the sesquicentennial celebrations. We’re hoping to have a
good number of restaurants there
and want to incorporate the history
of some of these restaurants into
our event. Many of them have
been in business for several years,
and we would like to highlight
that,” Orsi said.
Tickets are available at Casciano
Coffee Bar and Sweetery, Maplewood Inn and The Golden Feather
during normal hours of operation.
A limited number of tickets will
also be sold at the door.
