COMMISSION, from Page 1
the topic at the first meeting
was an update to the Hammonton
Lake Park’s playground, with the
addition of some handicapped-ac-
cessible equipment.
“We had a nice discussion for a
little while and i guess where we
left it was, Kiwanian Michael
Pasquarello is going to develop a
plan with the companies that
make this type of equipment. Ki-
wanis is a great organization that
has donated a tremendous amount
of time and money to our town
and they are willing to match half
of what we are going to try to get
as a grant. Of course this kind of
thing takes time, so it may be a
year or two years before we see
any action down there at all,”
Cappuccio said.
rodio and Sacco elaborated fur-
ther.
“Michael Pasquarello is a land-
scape designer and is involved
with this kind of stuff, so he and
the company that designs the
equipment can put a plan together
and we’ll see how far we can go
with money in the next three years
or so. Kiwanis is ready to make
the commitment and i can speak
for the Mayor and say the town is
as well,” rodio said.
“i think whats noteworthy is the
idea of coming up with a compre-
hensive plan of what the park
needs and tackling it one piece at
a time so its manageable for
everybody, and to note that Mr.
Pasquarello is donating his time
here in the planning stages. there
was a beautiful day maybe two or
three weeks ago, it was like 68 de-
grees out and i had never seen so
many families there. We are lucky
to have the playground but it
could definitely use some up-
grades. So this is a start,” Sacco
said.
the President of the Hammon-
ton Youth Soccer association Paul
Massey addressed the committee
with an update regarding the fields
on Boyer avenue.
“We met with frank LoSasso at
the school and they are going
allow us, at least for March and
probably into april, to use the six
acre site at the school not only for
practice but games as well. if it
comes down to it we can probably
stay off of Boyer avenue the en-
tire spring to the let the fields heal
and let you guys do what needs to
be done out there,” Massey said.
approvals were needed for four
use of facility requests including
the Presbyterian Church of Ham-
monton’s easter service on april
21 at Veterans Park, the american
Cancer Society’s annual cycling
event and DQ events’ triathlon at
the Lake Park, and the Pinelands
Preservation alliance’s rain barrel
presentation at the Canoe Club on
Saturday, May 4. Commission
member Paul Ordille made a mo-
tion to approve the entire report,
seconded by James Borda and ap-
proved unanimously.
Chairman Louis Cappuccio
then informed the commission
that he attended a meeting with a
representative from Kramer Bev-
erage and that they would be in-
terested in entertaining any ideas
for the vacant area that is not on
the rOSi map off of eleventh
Street, which the company has al-
ready acquired in their expansion
project. He called on the commis-
sion to use the time between this
Parks and recreation meeting and
the next to develop some ways
that Kramer could use the land
that would be beneficial to both
the company and the town.
“i think we as a committee
could come up with some ideas
that would integrate with their use
of the facility in order to improve
them. right now they’re going to
be doing fencing and trees inside
this area, but in the past they have
had ball games with their employ-
ees, so maybe some fields or
something along those lines,”
Cappuccio said.
the meeting concluded with
Sacco addressing the commission
about the annual lake cleanup
which will be taking place on Sat-
urday, March 30.
“We have around 100 volun-
teers come out that day. We usu-
ally have some doughnuts and
coffee donated and aCUa pro-
vides lunch. So if you’re around,
come on out and help,” Sacco
said.
