Mary Susan DeMarco
Mary Susan ( Verrech ) DeMarco of Hammonton died february 18 , 2022 , at the age of 98 . She will be remembered for generously welcoming family and friends into her home , for countless Sunday dinners and delicious baked goods and for the love that she gave to all in her life .
Mary was born in Philadelphia on august 15 , 1923 — the feast of the assumption of the Virgin Mary . in 1942 , she graduated from Sacred Heart academy in Lancaster , Pa . Before her marriage to anthony J . DeMarco of Hammonton in august of 1944 , Mary worked at Bendix aviation in Philadelphia . During WWii , she also performed with the United Service Organizations ( USO ). after they were married , she worked for many years with her husband on their farm , DadSon farm , located on Pleasant Mills road . She also worked at Waldman & Greenberg clothing factory and , for two decades , at Whitehall Laboratories .
Mary is predeceased by her husband ; her father and mother , John and Mary ( LoSasso ) Verrech ; her brother , Joseph austin Verrech ; her sister and brother-in-law , ethel and Clyde Gantz ; and her son-in-law , William J . Cessato .
Mary is survived by her loving family , her daughters and sons-in-law , Charlotte r . Cessato , anita and Paul Hoffman , and Maryann and Hank rizzotte . She was the beloved grandmother of Melissa and Dr . Stefano Costanzi , Bill Cessato , MarySusan and Brian attard , Hank rizzotte , and Cynthia and frank rongone . She loved her three great-grandchildren , Victoria Costanzi , Brayden attard and frank rongone . Survivors also include her sister and brother-in-law , Joan and Samuel fulginiti , sisters-in-law Gladys tomasella and Stella Daniello , and many nieces , nephews and cousins . a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on tuesday , february 22 , at 11 a . m . at St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish , Church of St . anthony of Padua roman Catholic Church , located at 285 route 206 in Hammonton , where a visitation was held from 10 a . m . until 11 a . m . the Mass was followed by entombment at Oak Grove Cemetery , Hammonton . arlene McGair , 88 , of Hammonton , N . J . passed away peacefully at home , surrounded by her loving family . arlene was born in Providence , r . i . and lived many places before settling in Hammonton 18 years ago . She worked as legal secretary at for robert forgash Law firm in Medford , N . J . for many years before retiring .
She is predeceased by her parents , James and rose ( nee Spunzo ) Velleca ; her brother , Carl Velleca ; and sister , anne Velleca Bova . arlene is survived by her loving husband , francis ; her boys , Stephen and his wife Carol , Gary and his wife Maria and Bryan and his wife Margaret ; her brother , anthony Velleca ; and sister , Jessica Landry . She is the loving grandmother of Heather , Matthew , Christopher , Stephanie , tracie and Bryan and loving great-grandmother of Jackson . relatives and friends attended her viewing Saturday , february 19 , 2022 from 9:30 a . m . to 11 a . m . at the Marinella funeral Home 102 N . third St . Hammonton , NJ 08037 . funeral services were held at 11 a . m . Her burial will be in Brigadier General William C . Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown , N . J . at a later date .

Charles J . “ Charlie ” Panichelli
Charles J . “ Charlie ” Panichelli , 93 , of New Castle , Del ., passed away on friday , february 11 , 2022 .
Born and raised in Hammonton , N . J ., he was a son of the late Charles and rose ( DeNucci ) Panichelli . Charlie was drafted into the U . S . army in 1950 and proudly served his country in the 9th Military Police Company in fort Dix , N . J . until 1952 . in 1953 , he married Patricia Scott and moved to New Castle , where he worked for addressograph Multigraph Corporation . Charlie later worked for Wang industries , where he retired in 1993 . He was a life member of Joseph B . Stahl Memorial Post 30 . in addition to his parents , Charlie was preceded in death by his brother ,
Nicholas Panichelli . He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years , Patricia a . ( Scott ) Panichelli ; son , Scott Panichelli ( rebecca ); grandchildren , Christopher Panichelli ( Heather ), ashley Panichelli Casper ( Jim ); and great-grandchildren , Scott and Charli Panichelli and Walter Casper . a visitation for family and friends was held from 6 p . m . to 7:30 p . m . on thursday , february 17 , 2022 , at Spicer-Mullikin funeral Home , 1000 North DuPont Parkway , New Castle , Del . Murphy , DiDonato , Torrissi on grants
GRANTS , from Page 1 can get from maybe in the area of Bellevue avenue all the way to the lake park and maybe to the garden community [ area of Lakeview and Lakeshore Drive ],” Mayor Stephen DiDonato said .
On february 16 , Murphy announced 11 Bikeway Grants totaling $ 5.9 million to help advance local Bikeway projects in nine counties . it was announced that Hammonton will be receiving $ 745,000 for the Veterans Place Bicycle Path Connector Phase ii grant .
“ investing in bikeways helps promote alternate forms of transportation and reduces our reliance on cars . increased biking and walking are tangible steps we can take to achieve our climate change goals , while encouraging residents to live a healthy lifestyle ,” Murphy said in a release . DiDonato said this grant will widen the sidewalk along a portion of Veterans Way heading to Hammonton Lake Park . according to DiDonato the bike path will come out around 11th Street near Veterans Way , come up that road , “ hit egg Harbor , cross over egg Harbor at the library , widen that sidewalk , widen the sidewalk at the library or create some kind of path , to Park avenue and create a ramp into the lake park and then down onto ” the county bike path
into the Lakeview and Lakeshore Drive section of the town . the goal , the mayor said , is to eventually connect to Boyer avenue .
“ You can use it as a walking path . it is not just a bike path ,” Di- Donato said former Hammonton councilman Michael torrissi Jr . ( NJ-8 ) is now an assemblyman serving in trenton .
“ any time you have some friends in different districts that are affiliated to trenton it helps ,” DiDonato said .
“ as a native Hammontonian , i ’ m pleased to see the state make this welcome investment to promote transportation alternatives like walking and biking in our community . this town ’ s greenery and open spaces are some of its greatest assets and i ’ m pleased those of us in state government are doing our part to make sure they remain safe and accessible to pedestrians . these state grant funds will ease the burden on municipal taxpayers as we develop infrastructure that promotes greater safety and quality-of-life for the biking community ,” torrissi said in a written statement .
“ the Murphy administration recognizes transportation infrastructure is more than just roads and bridges . Projects funded by the Bikeway Grant Program provide safe transportation alternatives that benefit cyclists and pedestrians and improve the quality-of-life in New Jersey ,” NJDOt Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said in a release . traditionally , the Bikeway Grant Program provides $ 1 million in grants annually to counties and municipalities in order to promote bikeways as an alternate mode of transportation that support the state ’ s efforts to add new miles of dedicated bikeways in New Jersey . this year , an additional $ 13.5 million was appropriated for Grants-in-aid programs , specifically for the transit Village Program , the Safe Streets to transit Program , and for Bicycle & Pedestrian facilities / accommodations . Of the $ 13.5 million , $ 4.9 million was provided for the Bikeway Grant Program . each municipality and each county may submit one application . Projects are awarded on a competitive basis taking into consideration new bike miles created , safety , connectivity , service to public , Complete Streets Policy and an applicant ’ s past performance using other Local aid funds .
