HAMMONTON—On February 12, the
Hammonton Environmental Commission
held its regular meeting. During the session,
the board discussed the final details of the
2013 ANJEC (Association of New Jersey
Environmental Commissions) Open Space
Grant project, along with the 2014 Work Plan
and 2014 Hammonton Lake Cleanup preparation. There was a tree removal application
submitted from the Sassano residence at 228
E. Pleasant St. The applicant was requesting
the removal of two trees, which are interfering with the driveway and overhead wires.
The applicant, Aurielo Sassano, was present at the meeting to demonstrate to the board
the reasoning for his request to remove the
trees. The one tree is lifting up the driveway
and it has become hazardous, while the other
has created sidewalk complications and interference with the overhead wires.
After some deliberation about the application, the board unanimously approved the
tree removal proposal.
“The motion has been approved and I will
get you [Sassano] your permit in the mail the
next couple of days. I will notify town hall
that it has been approved for both of those
trees to be removed,” Chairman Robert Reitmeyer said.
In the committee reports portion of the
agenda, board member Michael Hozik provided an update on the Hammonton
Planning Board, which met on January 29 to reappoint and elect officers. Hozik said there were no other
agenda items covered during the first
meeting of 2014.
On February 10, Hammonton
Town Council had a special meeting
to discuss the Grape Street, Pratt
Street, Second Street and Packard
Street road reconstruction project.
Councilman Dan Bachalis spoke
about what took place at the meeting.
“At the special meeting that we
had on [February 10], council approved the bond ordinance and bid
selection for the Grape Street,
Packard Street, Second Street and
Pratt Street road project. That will be
moving forward, and we had a brief
meeting [on February
