arthur J . wicks sr .

Arthur J . Wicks Sr ., 85 , died peacefully on February 1 , 2018 , with his family by his side .

Art served honorably for 26 years in the U . S . Army . His tours of duty were in Korea , Vietnam and Germany . After retirement , he drove a school bus which he enjoyed . He also enjoyed barbecues with family , fishing , long rides in the car and was faithful to the Lord .

Beloved husband of 60 years of Elfriede A . Wicks . Devoted father of Steffen ( Lillian ), Phyllis Mazzeo ( Robert ), Arthur J . ( Kathy ) and Karl T . ( Jennifer ). Proud grandfather of Amanda ( Bob ), Robert ( Liz ), Karl ( Alex ), Steffen and Wayne . Great-grandfather of Karlie , Malayna and Jacob .

Relatives and friends attended his funeral service on Tuesday , February 6 at the Solid Rock Baptist Church , 420 S . White Horse Pike , Berlin , NJ 08009 . Interment with full military honors , William C . Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery , Wrightstown , NJ .

In lieu of flowers , contributions to Solid Rock Baptist Church at the above address would be appreciated .

Charles M . perna

Charles M . Perna , 61 , of Chesilhurst , died on Sunday , January 28 , 2018 , in Virtua Hospital in Voorhees .

Born in Hammonton , he was a lifelong area resident . Charlie formerly worked as an operating engineer with IUOE Local 825 . He was the former chief of the Winslow Vol . Fire Company and was a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen ’ s Association . Charlie ’ s hobbies included drag racing , motocross and loved everything Elvis .

He was predeceased by his parents , Robert and Rose Perna ; his wife , Mary Dadura-Perna ; and his son , Charles Perna . Charlie is survived by his children , Robert Perna ( Jamie ), Daniel Wunschel , Donna Bishop ; his siblings , Dominic Perna , Chris Perna-Saravia , Rose Mary Perna ; his significant other , Cindy Wakeley ; his grandchildren , Gionna and Taylor Perna , Madisyn and Michael Perna , Ambyr and Daniel Wunschel , Jennifer , Joey and Becky Garrity ; and many great-grandchildren , nieces , nephews , cousins and friends .

Funeral services were held on Friday , February 2 , 2018 , at the Carnesale Funeral Home , 202 S . Third St ., Hammonton , NJ . Burial will be private .

Mark D . Turner iii

Mark D . Turner III , of Mullica Twp ., was born on December 23 , 1976 , in Staunton , Va ., and died on January 25 , 2018 .

Mark was a 1995 graduate of Ocean City High School . He was formerly employed at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission where he enjoyed working for the Lord and where he met his wife , Kelly . Mark ’ s passion for helping others wasn ’ t restricted within the walls of the Mission . Mark could be found giving strangers rides and literally giving the coat off his back to those he served . He also held bible studies to encourage fellow believers . Mark was a skilled carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America . Mark was a talented musician and played guitar and sang locally . He wore many hats . He had amazing culinary skills and grew the best Jersey tomatoes in his garden following in the footsteps of his grandfather , Bud . He enjoyed the outdoors . He was an avid fisherman , hunter and enjoyed countless rounds of golf with his father and father-in-law , Frank . Mark cherished his dogs , Chompy , Frankie and Buddy . Mark was also known as a practical jokester and always had the family laughing when you least expected .

He was predeceased by maternal grandparents , George and Jayne McGinley ; and paternal grandparents , Mark and Rosemary Turner . He is survived by his loving wife , Kelly ; stepson , Carmelo ; mother , Claress McGinely-Turner ; brother , Matthew Turner of Somers Point ; father , Mark Turner Jr . and wife , Sara of Merritt Island , Fla .; aunts , Beth Van Hook , Nancy McGinley and Beth Lenhardt ( Tom ); uncle , George McGinley ; godparents , Dan and Karen Pashley ; many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Mark dearly , as well as his cousins , relatives and “ first friends .”

A celebration of Mark ’ s life was held at the Calvary Chapel of Hammonton on Saturday , February 3 . Burial will be private .

HAMMONTON — Police made several arrests last week , including the following , Hammonton Police Lt . Kevin Friel said .

• On January 30 at 12:23 a . m ., Kenneth Kuff , 33 , of Deptford Twp ., was stopped in Deptford Twp ., found to have active warrants , turned over to Gloucester Twp ., found to have active warrants and then turned over to Hammonton , where he was found to have a warrant of $ 1,000 full cash from Hammonton , Friel said .

Kuff was transported to the Atlantic County Jail . Officer Kyle Ambrozaitis was the arresting officer , Friel said .

• On January 31 at 1:27 a . m . at 80 S . White Horse Pike , Michael Krisch , 52 , of Hammonton , was allegedly operating a motor vehicle while suspended , Friel said .

He was found to have an active warrant from Hammonton for $ 89 and was released on his own recognizance pending a court date , Friel said .

Krisch received a summons for driving while suspended , and the arresting officer was Officer Kyle Ambrozaitis , Friel said .

In other police department news , officers made an arrest after receiving a telephone tip from a resident of the 400 block of S . White Horse Pike at 5:58 p . m . on February 3 about a possible altercation about to occur , Friel said .

“ A caller reported that a group of subjects located in a vehicle behind a trailer at Gino Pinto Plaza were going to be involved in an altercation with a person who lived in the residence on the site ,” Friel said .

A subject in the car was found to be in possession of marijuana , Friel said .

Jason Stoudt Jr ., 18 , of Waterford Twp , he was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance marijuana under 50 grams , Friel said . “ He and the rest of the subjects

HAMMONTON — The Hammonton Rotary Club has announced its third annual Hammonton Gravy vs . Sauce Competition set for 3 p . m ., Sunday , February 18 , at Hammonton Fire House No . 2 , 51 N . White Horse Pike in Hammonton . Completed entry forms are due by February 11 .

Whether you call it gravy for sauce , what you put on your pasta has been a source of pride , tradition and culinary artistry for generations . The public is invited to join a friendly tasting event and competition to find the best of the best among local Sunday dinner cooks and restaurant professionals .

The competition is in two divisions : Homemade , which includes original recipes from home and professional for restaurants or commercially made entries . Within each division , there are four categories : red , white , meat or other .

Police make several arrests
