Oliva noted that the planning board had several goals for 2023 .
“ We talked last year , at the end of the year , about continuing to fortify our desire to see curb and sidewalk expanded throughout the community . That resides with us ; it ’ s our responsibility . It ’ s a requirement , and it ’ s our responsibility to uphold that requirement ,” Oliva said .
Other goals , Oliva said , included the presentation of new master plan elements for the board ’ s consideration , along with the board ’ s regular duties .
All of this , Oliva said , will be done under the leadership of a new board chair .
“ For the first time in 14 years , this board will have a new chair — and I think the town of Hammonton is incredibly fortunate to have 13 individuals sitting up here , right now , that I think all could do a spectacular job in that role ,” Oliva said .
Oliva opened the floor for nominations for the board ’ s chair for a term of one year . Board member Michael Hozik nominated Olivo ; Messina seconded the nomination , which was approved unanimously .
Oliva then yielded the chair to Olivo .
“ I ’ d like to thank everyone for their nomination and electing me to this term . I know there ’ s very large shoes to fill , but my feet aren ’ t quite that big — but , with your help , throughout this year I think we could do an outstanding job ,” Olivo said .

Olivo said the voices of each member , whether full or alternate , were important to the board .
“ I want you to be here for as many meetings as you could be . I understand , sometimes , there ’ s obligations that take us away from this board , and you might not be able to make that meeting , but please : always put your input into the meeting ,” Olivo said .
Olivo then opened the floor for nominations for the board ’ s vicechair . Hozik nominated board member Gordon Pherribo ; Oliva seconded the motion , and Pherribo was voted unanimously for a term of one year .
“ I ’ m looking forward to working with you ,” Olivo said .
The board voted to approve the following appointments for a term of one year : board secretary , Shelly DiChurch ; board solicitor , Joseph P . McGroarty Esq ., of Fitzgerald & McGroarty PA ; board engineer , Mark Herrmann of Adams , Rehmann and Heggan Associates ( ARH ); board planning / traffic engineer , Stuart Wiser of ARH .
In other business , the planning board adopted the following resolution :
• Alessio Venturini , Application No . 06-22PB — Applicant was approved for nonconformities from the proposed swimming pool at 22 N . Grand St .
• James Sassano , Application No . 10-22PB — Applicant was approved to consolidate and re-subdivide five existing lots into five new single-family residential lots .
Before the conclusion of the meeting , Hozik offered his wellwishes for the new chairman .
“ We ’ re looking forward to working with you , Bill ,” Hozik said .
The Hammonton Planning Board regularly holds meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 p . m . The next meeting is scheduled for February 1 .
