Lyons named chairman of zoning bd . of adjustment
ZONING , from Page 1 Before continuing the proceedings , Lyons took the opportunity to thank former chairman Michael Messina for his time served and also thank former board members Benjamin Ott and William Brinkerhoff , whose terms ended last month .

the board as their respected terms have ended at the end of the calendar year ,” Lyons said .
This marks Lyons first term as chairman of the board . Immediately after the meeting , Lyons spoke to the Gazette about the opportunity to serve as chairman and what it means to him .
“ I ’ m happy to be here . I serve in many different capacities in the community : the Board of Education , the Fire Department and the Atlantic County Utilities Authority . But the zoning board is probably one of my most favorite things . I enjoy the work here and it is an important job that we have to do . I enjoy the board . We have a great group of people . Very level-headed , diligent and fair , and I ’ m looking forward to it ,” Lyons said .
After Lyons ’ nomination , Ingemi made a motion to nominate Matro for the position of vicechairman . The motion was seconded by board member John Adolf and approved unanimously .
Newly-appointed board member Sal Colasurdo was nominated for the position of non-recording secretary by Ingemi . The motion was seconded by Messina and approved unanimously . non-recording secretary ’ s responsibility to temporarily serve as chairman . Colasurdo , a longtime member of both the zoning and planning board , spoke to the Gazette after the meeting about the opportunity to return to one of the boards he has served the town with for multiple decades .
“ I ’ m glad to be back to doing what I ’ m doing ... There are so many hoops to jump through anymore , between the Pinelands [ Commission ] and all the approvals that need to be gone through . Sometimes , you need someone who knows the people of Hammonton and knows the things that are going to be important for the town itself … It takes a lot of research to make sure you ’ re doing what you ’ re supposed to be doing , and it has to be what is good for the town first and hopefully it is good for everyone ,” Colasurdo said .
Not present for the meeting was Nick Polito , who was appointed as alternate board member No . 1 during town council ’ s reorganization meeting on January 5 .
Lyons also took a moment to welcome Polito and Colasurdo back to the board .
“ Mr . Polito is not here this evening , but I want to welcome him back as alternate to the zoning board and last , but certainly not

The following appointments were also made during the meeting , each for a term of one year . All motions for appointment were approved unanimously :
• Charles Woolson appointed as board solicitor ( Motion : Adolf , seconded by Ingemi ).
• Robert Vettese of town engineering firm , Adams , Rehmann and Heggan ( ARH ) Associates , appointed as board engineer ( Motion : Colasurdo , seconded by Ingemi ).
• Kevin Dixon of Dixon Associates appointed as board planner / traffic engineer ( Motion : Colasurdo , seconded by Messina ).
• Patti Berenato appointed as board secretary ( Motion : Ingemi , seconded by Adolf ).
The board was originally scheduled to discuss an application from George Reed , who is seeking a use variance to permit a plastics machine shop for Block 2416 , Lot 7 , Zone DT-3 , at 318 N . Washington St ., but the hearing was postponed until next month ’ s meeting .
The zoning board of adjustments will meet next on Thursday , February 23 , 7 p . m . in town hall chambers .
