PWTC meeting held Jan . 20

PWTC , from Page 1 meeting with the contractor about having the demo completed . Simultaneously , before the end of this month , which I realize is next week , we will be submitting to Pinelands to get approval to put the parking lot up that the town desires behind town hall .”
Cornforth then gave an update on the state of the project at the Mazza Muffler site .
“ We previously reported that we had finished the preliminary assessment and I had let you guys know that there ’ s going to be some additional work that needs to go on at the site . It is included in the grant application that had gone in and got approved . We ’ re working on putting that proposal together and then in the meantime we ’ re finalizing the plans and specs for demo-ing the Muffler building . I ’ m not sure if this is still what you want to do there , but you did previously get Pinelands approval to demo it and put a parking lot there if you wanted , not saying you can ’ t change your minds now ,” Cornforth said .
Later in the meeting , town public works manager , Robert Vettese , addressed the situation regarding a section of the storm sewer pipe from Walmer Street to Locust Street .
“ We had a contractor , JCM , out there . The pipe actually looked in halfway decent shape but there were joints where we had the sinkhole occur that were basically open and allowing dirt to enter into the pipe itself , although the pipe was clean . And that might be indicative of that entire length of pipe because there was two other areas while we had them out there since we got to replace any pipe . We had them look in the manhole and actually patch one other area of pipe and we also had them patch the roadway where we had some settlement ,” Vetesse said .
Vetesse also said they might to revisit that section of pipe again to determine if it needs to be joint repair or sliplining .
The next big topic at hand was the matter of the replacing service lines in Hammonton .
“ There ’ s going to be a link on the website for people to go on there and look at their service line and actually we ’ re going to have a way where they can actually identify their service line because of the lead and copper rules within 10 years we have to replace all lead service lines and that includes galvanized lines too ,” said Anthony DeCicco , head of the town ’ s water and sewer department .
Councilman Steven Furgione had some more thoughts on this topic , clarifying what the next steps are for the town .
“ We ’ re working with ARH to figure out if we have any lead
service lines first . Whether it ’ s going to be drilling some holes here and there and looking at some old lines , that ’ ll be on our side . We ’ re going to do the survey with the residents to figure out what they have going from our connection to their house and then we ’ re going to have get some sort of a clarification from the state or the federal government as to what happens if a individual homeowner has a line , that ’ s a lead line , running from their house to our connection , what happens at that point in time ,” Furgione said .
Furgione also said that if it ’ s the town ’ s responsibility to fix the individual lines , it would be a “ pretty complicated construction project .” The last topic discussed in the meeting was Fourth Street water tower , which was largely tabled for the February meeting .
“ It ’ s going to have to be cleaned , it ’ s going to have to be inspected on the inside , we ’ ve got to still to put a mixing valve in there and then paint ,” Furgione said .
Furgione also added that the town will be forced to figure out the complications with what would happen to the town ’ s water pressure while the tank is being
