Benjamin D. Caruso
Benjamin D. Caruso Jr., 68, of Sicklerville died on Monday, January
13, 2020.
Ben was born in Camden, and was formerly of Hammonton. He
worked as an audio sound system installer for Horizon recording Studios,
inc. in Pitman, N.J. Ben was an amazing artist and musician, playing the
trombone, cello, guitar and was a member of several local bands and HHS
class of 1969.
He is predeceased by his parents, Benjamin D. Sr. and Dorothy May
(nee Cramer) and brother, Dominic. Surviving is his sister, Cheryl re
(Sam) of Hammonton; three nephews; one niece; four great-nieces and
one great-nephew.
relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on thursday, January 23,
2020 at 11 a.m. at the Victory Bible Church, 816 S. egg Harbor rd, Hammonton. Visitation
with family will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. inter-
ment will be private.

Carmen G. Tavarez-Florentino
Carmen G. tavarez-florentino, 59, of Hammonton died peacefully at
home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
Born in isabela, Puerto rico, she has lived in Hammonton most of her
life. She had worked for MW Patriot Manufacturing from 1989 until
2009.
Carmen is predeceased by her mother, Maximina tavarez and her sis-
ter, rosa Nieves. She is survived by her husband, Joseph frank flo-
rentino; three sons, Victor Nieves Jr. (Brandi), emmanuel Nieves (Misti
ferris) and Javier Nieves (Migdalis); her father, aracelio tavarez; three
brothers, Luis tavarez (Carmen), Miguel tavarez (zaida), Victor tavarez;
one sister, Blanca torres (Jesus); 12 grandchildren and many aunts, un-
cles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
a viewing was held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Carnesale funeral Home, Ham-
monton, where funeral services also took place. Burial followed at Greenmount Cemetery
in Hammonton.

Jeanne Whitney
Jeanne Whitney (nee Shaffer), 92, of Hammonton died on January 19,
2020 at Voorhees Senior Living in Voorhees twp., N.J.
She was born in Jersey City, N.J. Jeanne went to Glassboro State Col-
lege in the 1970s. She graduated as a school librarian and reading spe-
cialist for grades K-8. She was on the dean’s list which was inspiring to
her children. Her teaching career extended throughout the South Jersey
area. for much of her career she worked as a remedial math and reading
teacher contracted by the State of N.J. to work in Catholic schools. Jeanne
enjoyed socializing, music, dancing and traveling to foreign countries.
She volunteered at the USO on Governor’s island, N.Y., the Welcome
Wagon in Hammonton and Parents Without Partners in the Mays Landing
Chapter Board. She also was a member at St. Joseph Church and the Winslow twp. fire
Company Ladies auxiliary. She will be greatly missed by her family and always remem-
bered for her one-liners and zingers but most especially for always wishing everyone “Sweet
Dreams.”
She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Lillian (nee ramsay) Shaffer and her
brothers, Charles, robert and Harold Shaffer. Her husband Bernard W. Whitney, father of
her five children, died in 1978. She married Luther Katinos in 1983, who predeceased her
in 1993. Surviving are her children, Bernard J. Whitney (Melinda) of Maggie Valley, N.C.,
Kathleen Whitney Barr (Stephen) of Newark, Del., Maureen Depalma (Mark) of Hammon-
ton, Kevin J. Whitney (Lainie) of Hammonton and adrienne J. esposito (andrew) of Ham-
monton; one sister, audrey Belter (Neal) of fort Mill, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, thomas Barr
(Christina), Gregory Barr (annemarie), Victoria Barr, elizabeth Barr, Lucy Barr, David De-
Palma (Colleen), Kevin Whitney ii, Jillian Plavchak (eric), Kellen Whitney, MacKenzie
esposito; one great-grandson, Hunter John Plavchak and 11 nieces and nephews.
to celebrate Jeanne’s life, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on friday, January
24 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 226 french St., Hammonton, where the family will
receive friends prior to Mass from 10 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. interment will follow in Germania
Cemetery, egg Harbor City. in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to ben-

came to police headquarters to re-
port a potential identity theft, friel
said. His cell phone number had
been registered to a new cell
phone without his permission,
friel said.
“the complainant noticed via a
text message from his carrier that
his cell phone number had been
transferred to another carrier at
approximately 8 p.m. the evening
prior,” friel said.
friel said the complainant con- tacted his carrier, was advised to
file a police report and was given
a temporary cell phone number by
his carrier until the situation was
resolved.

said.
arrested were: Justina Cande-
laria, 39, of Millville; Sherri Craig,
39, of Clementon; and Daniel Dut-
ton Jr., 38 of Mays Landing, friel
said.
• Candelaria had two active war-
rants from West Deptford Munici-
pal Court and had in her
possession a green in color glass-
ine bag with a rock-like substance
believed to be methamphetamine,
friel said. She was charged on a
summons for possession of con-
trolled dangerous substance (cds)
methamphetamine, friel said. Of-
ficer Gordon ellis iii was the ar-
resting officer, friel said.
• Craig was arrested on a war- rant from the Camden County
Prosecutor’s Office, an NCiC war-
rant from Wilmington, Del., a war-
rant from Waterford twp. for
$1,500; a warrant from Winslow
twp. for $500; a warrant from
Berlin twp. for $500; and a war-
rant from Gloucester twp. for
$300, friel said. Officer John
amendolia iii was the arresting of-
ficer, friel said, adding that Craig
was transported to the atlantic
County Jail.
• Dutton was arrested on a war-
rant and reustle was the arresting
officer, friel said.
in other police news, police are
investigating the theft of more than
$300 in cash on the 400 block of
N. egg Harbor road that was re-
ported to police at 11:29 a.m. on
January 18, friel said.
friel said the complainant came
to headquarters and reported that
someone took $320 in cash from
their vehicle, sometime between
December 31 at 7 p.m. and January
1 at 9 a.m.
“the reason she waited so long
to report the incident is because
she was speaking to a neighbor
who said something had been
stolen from her vehicle too, so she
thought she should report it,” friel
said.
Officer William Kurz was the
investigating officer, friel said.
Vehicle stop leads to arrests

HaMMONtON—three peo-
ple were arrested, one for drug
possession, following a vehicle
stop that occurred at 8:37 p.m. on
January 17 on the 800 block of S.
White Horse Pike (route 30),
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin
friel said.
“a vehicle was stopped for fail-
ure to maintain a lane of travel and
speeding. the officer who initiated
the stop was Det. David reustle,”
friel said.
Andrea Guzman
andrea Guzman (nee arocho-Santiago), 91, of Newtonville, N.J., died
peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
Born in San Sebastian, Puerto rico, she lived in Newtonville for 47
years. She was a longtime member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish and
had a deep love for Christ. She enjoyed gardening, colorful flowers, cook-
ing and babysitting for others. Her family was everything to her. She was
a devoted wife and an exceptional mother.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dionisio Guzman; her great-grand-
son, Kevin rivera and her five siblings, Maximino, Margarita, Virginia,
Cristino and Diego. She is survived by her six sons, eluzier Guzman (Luz
Celenia), Max Guzman (aida) all of Hammonton, angel Luis Guzman
of Newtonville, eddie Guzman (Sue) of Waterford, Carmin Guzman (Sarah) of Mullica,
Daniel Guzman of el Paso, texas; her three daughters, anna Guzman of Landisville, Gloria
Guzman of Buena, Delia Pratts (richard) of Collings Lakes; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-
grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated tuesday, January 21, 2020, in St. Mary of Mt.
Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph’s, Hammonton. Burial followed in Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery. Viewings were held on Monday, January 20, 2020 and on tuesday, January 21,
at the Carnesale funeral Home, Hammonton. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude
Children’s research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, tN 38105.
