OBITUARIES

John Prescott Gower

John Prescott Gower , 96 , passed away with his loving wife Marie by his side on January 1 , 2023 , in Naples , Florida . John was born on June 25 , 1926 , in Bar Harbor , Maine to Earl P . and Mary ( Byron ) Gower .
After attending Bar Harbor High School , John joined the Army Air Force in 1944 , serving as an aerial engineer while stationed in Hawaii . He graduated from University of Maine where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master ’ s degree . John went on to attend Columbia University , earning a PhD in Educational Administration .
John dedicated his career to education and public-school administration in both Maine and New Jersey ultimately serving as a professor in the department of education at William Paterson University where he prepared future generations of educators .
From his days growing up in Bar Harbor to the end of his life , John had a passion for the outdoors , adventure , and hard work . He and Marie traveled extensively through Europe and South America . Their shared love of skiing led them on many trips to beautiful mountains , including their annual month-long visits to Steamboat Springs , Colorado , where John skied with the “ Over the Hill Gang ” well into his 90 ’ s . John enjoyed spending summers on Goose Cove in West Tremont , Maine . He hiked all over Acadia National Park , which he considered his playground , sailed Blue Hill Bay , and tended to flower and vegetable gardens . John was a dedicated volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Collier County , Florida and Acadia National Park , Maine .
He is survived by his wife of 71 years , Marie , and many loving nieces and nephews . John was preceded in death by his parents , his siblings the Rev . James Gower , Charles Gower , Eileen McMorrow and Kathleen Peverini and twin sons James and Joseph .
A Catholic Mass will be held in Maine at a later date . Anthony J . “ Drag ” Ingemi

Anthony J . " Drag " Ingemi , 83 , of Hammonton passed away on Saturday , January 14 , 2023 at Cooper University Medical Center in Camden . Born and raised in Hammonton Drag moved with his family to Yardville , N . J . in 1966 , and returned to live full time in Hammonton in 1999 . He worked as a General Freight Agent for Long Island Railroad before retiring in 1989 . Drag enjoyed farming and gardening and he loved to spend time on his tractors . He was a member of the Santo Antonio Abbate Society . He also enjoyed going to breakfast with the boys , but his greatest joy was spending time with his family especially with his baby girl Gianna Marie .
Drag was predeceased by his bride , Miss Barbara Ingemi ( nee Paltz ); and his parents , John and Anna Ingemi . He is survived by his daughter and son in law , Annemarie I . and Frank Mazzei ; his baby girl and granddaughter , Gianna Marie Mazzei ; his sister , Nancy Garchinsky ; his five nieces , Marianne Thornton ( John ), Teresa Benning ( James ), Patricia Garchinsky , Bernadette Janas ( Victor ) and Annette ( Buffy ) Garchinsky ; his brother in law , sisters in law , nieces , nephews , cousins and friends .
A viewing will be held on Thursday , January 19 , 2023 from 6 p . m . – 8 p . m . and Friday , January 20 , 2023 from 9:30 a . m . - 10:30 a . m . at the Carnesale Funeral Home , 202 S . Third Street in Hammonton . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a . m . at St . Mary of Mt . Carmel Parish Church of St . Joseph ' s , 226 French Street in Hammonton . Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery , 124 S . First Road in Hammonton . In lieu of flowers family requests that you plant a garden or flowers in Drag ' s memory .

Isadore A . Capaldi

Isadore A . Capaldi , 79 , of Mullica Twp , N . J . passed away Tuesday January 10 , 2023 at his residence . He was born in Philadelphia , Pa . and lived in Hammonton most of his life . Isadore was a graduate of Hammonton High School and a veteran of the Unites States Navy . He worked at Whitehall Labs in Hammonton for over 20 years and also as a bus driver for Integrity Transportation .
He is predeceased by his parents , Anthony and Mary Capaldi . Survived by his loving wife of 55 years , June Capaldi ( nee Evans ); his sons , Nick Capaldi ( Kelly ), and Shawn Capaldi ( Kristen ); and grandchildren , Nick ( Carly ), Kyle , Kerrick , Christian and step-grandchildren , Justin & Kevin .
Family and friends were invited to attend a graveside service 10 a . m .
Saturday January 14 , 2023 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery , 248 S . First Road , Hammonton , N . J . Fire destroys home on Walnut St .

POLICE , from Page 1
The Hammonton Fire Department responded and several area departments assisted , extinguishing the blaze , Friel said .
“ The structural integrity of the residence was compromised due to the blaze and mass amounts of water . The scene was secured and fire investigators returned the following morning to more safely investigate the cause of the fire ,” Friel said .
The fire does not appear suspicious but is under investigation to determine the cause of the blaze , Friel said .
In other police news , a suspicious vehicle that was blocking Vine Street near Central Avenue at 9:22 p . m . on January 10 led to a warrant arrest , Friel said .
Officer Matthew Heiser observed a white pickup truck towing a white sedan in the roadway in the area of Vine Street and Central Avenue .
“ It was blocking Vine Street ,” Friel said .
Heiser made contact with the owner of the vehicle who said he was purchasing the sedan from another male subject who was standing nearby , Friel said .
During the encounter , the name that was provided by the seller was Enrique Franco , Friel said . The subject was later positively identified as Juvenal Duranalmanza , 34 , of Hammonton , Friel said .
He was found to have an active warrant in the amount of $ 478 from Hammonton Joint Municipal
Court , Friel said . He was taken into custody and charged with hindering apprehension , obstruction of the administration of law and exhibiting false documents as proof of identification , Friel said .
Duranalmanza was transported to police headquarters for processing and released pending a court appearance in Atlantic County Superior Court , Friel said . He was also released on his own recognizance for the Hammonton Joint Municipal Court warrant , Friel said .
Heiser was the investigating and arresting officer , Friel said .
