as wheelbarrows, gardening hoses, shovels, rakes and
watering cans. Committee chair Sara Verrillo is
thrilled about the continued interest in the garden.
“We are hoping to expand that up to 42 plots. This
past year, there were 18 gardeners and 18 plots. They
already have 32 applications this year, so that’s pretty
exciting. There is a whole core group of people, some
of who are on the actual Green Committee and then
some who just participate in the garden. They’re really active and get a lot done,” Verrillo said.
For the past couple of years, the Green Committee
has been holding events called the “Eye Opening
Film Series.” The group meets and presents short
films and documentaries about environmental issues.
There is often a guest speaker who follows up the
film and expands on the topic being discussed that
evening. Films are usually shown right in the downtown area at Stockton’s Kramer Hall.
“We’re planning one for some time around March.
