"Purpose. How is this word defined? Diccionary.com says, “The reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. “ In life we like to feel that we have some purpose. And many of us do have purpose in our families, businesses, communities, and in a Fraternity like ours, being that of Freemasonry.

So then, what is the purpose of Masonry? The basic purpose is to make "better men out of good men." There is an emphasis placed on the individual man by strengthening his character, improving his moral and spiritual outlook, and broadening his mental horizons. Many of us Masons have had this experience that even our family members notice. As time goes by we fin ways to apply Masonic lessons learned and thus benefit from that action.

Masonry also tries to educate its members about the principles of personal responsibility and righteousness. Understanding of and feeling for Freemasonry's character. How to put these lessons into practice in their daily life. As time goes by we find ways to apply Masonic lessons learned and thus benefit from that action.

This is how we try to build a better world - by building better men to work in their own communities. As Masons of Fredericksburg Lodge by extension to other Lodges too, we have the opportunity to actively work in our communities. Members of Fredericksburg Lodge will shortly have the priviledge of presenting scholarship awards this month, which is the result of past work in fundraising. We also will actively be pursuing sponsors for our Car Show in June. It is true it is a core of individuals that do most of this work. And it is really appreciated. It would be great to see more join in securing these sponsors. In the end we all do what we can.

This reflects I guess one facet of the purpose of our Lodge. And may God continue to you, the reader, and our Lodge as we try to good in our community.
