Philip Morrice – whisky author and historian
Philip was born in Aberdeen – the home of Chivas
Regal - and had his early education there.
industry. In support of the latter, he has had over the
years strong connections with many of the distilling and
blending companies and, of course, in both his private
and official capacities, with the Scotch Whisky
Association.
Having entered the Diplomatic Service and travelled
extensively, he nevertheless retained close connections
with his origins and developed a love and deep
knowledge of Scotch whisky.
Philip has hosted whisky tasting events on behalf of
clients at such distinguished locations as: The Long
Room at Lords and the RAC Club in London, the
Manchester United board room at Old Trafford, the Union
Club in Sydney and the Commonwealth Club in Canberra.
This led him to write a number of books, including
"The Schweppes Guide to Scotch" and "The Whisky
Distilleries of Scotland and Ireland” (which was the
centenary rewrite of the classic work on whisky
distilleries by Alfred Barnard), as well as numerous
articles. He has been Glenfiddich Whisky Writer of the
Year and has also broadcast on the subject for the BBC.
Philip has lived in Australia since 1995, first as a
diplomat and then as a director of, and strategic
consultant to many local and international companies,
during which time he has developed respect for, and
knowledge of the local whiskies and particularly those of
Tasmania.
His professional experience embraces all five
continents, which he combines with a deep knowledge
and love of whisky and an understanding of the
