Dia de los Muertos originated in Mexico but the idea of it originated form the Olmec’s 3,000 years ago. This concept was passed to other cultures such as the Toltec’s, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec and Aztecs. Dia De Los Muertos is celebrated on November 2nd but most people like to begin the celebrations early on November 1st. People celebrate this occasion because it comes from their ancestors. This day isn’t supposed to be a sad because on this day people believe that their loved ones who have passed their spirits are able to come and be with them. People like to make skulls out of candy, dance folkloric which is a Mexican dance, and light candles and put ?owers on the graves of their loved ones. A parade is often held in their honor as well. Dia De Los Muertos isn’t just celebrated in Mexico; it’s also celebrated across the United States and Central America. -Cesar Martinez Photo by Michael B. Photo by dagnyg The G ro w ler 4
