C hristmas was originally first celebrated way back in 336 , during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine ( the first Christian Roman Emperor ). Then a few years later , Pope Julius I declared that the first of Jesus would be celebrated on December 25th . So that ’ s what it is , Jesus ' s birthday . I ' m sure it is celebrated to always remind people what Jesus did for us , however there is other big , common traditions are celebrated during Christmas .

The first huge one I think we all know about is , the celebration of Santa Clause and his elves . There is many different stories about how Santa even came to be a part of Christmas . Some say he was a poor monk , some say he was a rich man , some say he was a homeless man with two daughters . Most see him as St . Nicholas . St . Nicholas was also known as Nikolaos of Myra who was a historic 4thcentury Christian saint and Greek Bishop of Myra , in Asia Minor . It is said that he made many miracles happen during his intercession . He had a habit of surprising people with gifts ,
it gave rise to the traditional model of Santa Claus .
Another tradition most people participate in , is putting up a huge Christmas tree in their house and decorating it with lots of lights and ornaments . We use the specific Evergreen tree because it was an ancient symbol of life in the midst of winter . Romans use to decorate their houses with evergreen branches during the New Year . They believed these trees were reincarnations of Jesus ' s lordship .
