Targeted action to reduce runoff to the reef

NQ Dry Tropics is embarking on its most ambitious initiative yet — the Burdekin Landscape Repair Project — which aims to significantly reduce fine sediment runoff in the Burdekin Dry Tropics .
The project focuses on reducing an estimated 41,000 tonnes of sediment annually from the region ’ s catchments .
This will be accomplished through targeted gully and streambank repairs , as well as the implementation of improved land management practices .

The long term trial of virtual fencing being conducted at the Spyglass Beef Research Facility near Charters Towers is ready to scale up . Having proved effective on a smaller scale , the eShepherd virtual fencing collars will now be tested on a larger scale .
