The Burdekin Dry Tropics Water Quality Improvement Plan ( WQIP ) is key to protecting the Great Barrier Reef by tackling water quality issues from Reef catchments . Aligned with the Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan , a joint commitment of the Australian and Queensland governments , it focuses on improving water quality through collaboration with landholders , industry , Traditional Owners , and other stakeholders .
The plan guides targeted strategies for better land management and ecosystem restoration , ensuring that investments and actions deliver tangible economic and environmental benefits . A recent workshop involved the NQDT Traditional Owner Management Group ( TOMG ), who contributed their traditional ecological knowledge to enhance the strategy .
