What the Reef Trust Partnership
BBB program delivering big water quality results for the reef
The five-year BBB Water Quality Program, funded by the Reef Trust Partnership, has concluded, delivering major on-ground impacts across the Bowen, Broken and Bogie catchments.
Aimed at reducing suspended fine sediment flowing to the Great Barrier Reef, the program supported large-scale gully and streambank repairs and helped graziers improve land management.
On track to deliver:
• 105,000 tonnes of fine sediment stopped from entering local waterways annually;
• involvement from 71 landholders;
• 41 on-ground projects;
• grazing practice change across 63,000 hectares;
• installation of hundreds of kilometres of fencing and pipeline;
• addition of 141 troughs and 66 water tanks; and
• more than 30 training events to back the effort, alongside more than $ 3 million in co-investment from graziers.
