LDC PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION - 2019 OUR PEOPLE (professional) – Melissa Cormack. Judge’s comment: Love the warmth in this ‘golden hour’ image. It really ties in nicely with the interaction between boy and horse. Nice use of long lens to hone in on the subject matter and frame the image. Can’t beat interaction and emotion in images. OUR WORK (non-professional) – Christine Dalton. Judge’s comment: A couple of factors contribute to this winning image. I love the intensity in the pic. Capturing the cowboys doing their thing and the guy on the bike with all in motion creates a feeling of urgency. The great angle encapsulates the feeling of the entire scene. It’s almost as if I can feel the thundering of cattle as they make their way towards the river. Nice frame, well done. OUR WORK (professional) – Jocelyn Omand. Judge’s comment: Well exposed means the intensity of colours is strong. Overall composition is good. I also like how ‘bluey’ is in frame. It just gives you the whole connection between cowboy, his horse, and his best friend and work mate close by. P32 | Grit Issue 17, December, 2019
