- 2019 OUR ENVIRONMENT (non-professional) – Christine Dalton. Judge’s comment: Fantastic image of an animal that we don’t see all that often to start with. The positioning of Mr (or Mrs) platypus off centre and using the photographic term of ‘rule of thirds’, really accentuates the ripple effect. The overhead view also makes for a very visually pleasing image. OUR ENVIRONMENT (professional) – Georgie Garlando. Judge’s comment: A nice pic engaging the ‘rule of thirds’ . Well framed and nicely exposed. Good choice of long lens to be able to single out the subject from foreground and background. I also love the ‘harmony’ of colour. OUR PEOPLE (non-professional) – Natalie Comerford. Judge’s comment: Certainly fits the category of ‘Our People’. Mustering is part and parcel of living on the land in this part of the world. Good silhouette images can be very hard to achieve but this one nails it. Beautiful colour helped by the combination of either very early or very late afternoon sun and the dust being kicked up. Exposure is spot on. Grit, Issue 17, December, 2019 | P31
