It’s time to start
planning yuor
year end function
– a fun gathering
of dedicated
staff members,
suppliers and/or
clients that have
been instrumental
this year, a time to
let your hair down
after the stress of a
tough year.
id you know that Heritage Day (September 24), also known as National Braai Day as the result of a 2005 media campaign, was not originally intended to be an official
South African public holiday? But when the Inkatha Freedom Party refused to sign the Public Holiday’s Bill that was being presented to Parliament because it omitted
the inclusion of Shaka Day, a day that commemorated the famous Zulu King Shaka, a concession was made. Quite aptly, just as King Shaka was instrumental in uniting
Zulu clans into a cohesive nation, Heritage Day (appointed in place of King Shaka Day) encourages South Africans to come together to celebrate the rich cultural
heritage and diversity of our Rainbow Nation.
We wish all local residents a very happy Heritage Day this month, and if you’ll be celebrating the day off work on the 25th with friends and family around the braai,
be sure to check out our chicken braai recipes on page 14. Elsewhere in this issue, enjoy our reviews on Sprout Café & Salad Bar and our special education feature.
