The Education Issue
T
he great Nelson Mandela said that, “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor,
that a son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a country.”
As the dust settles on 2017, last year’s matric students are setting out to further their education as a new crop of children are settling into their first year of Grade 1.
It is a long road which they will travel, with many ups and downs, but as last years matriculants can attest to, with a lot of hard work, dedication, and some fun along the
way, your school years are often the best years of your life. In this issue, our annual issue dedicated to education, we have offered local schools the platform to celebrate
the achievements of the Class of 2017, yet we also explore a host of articles focussing on issues school kids (and their parents) have to deal with, including the big step
between high school and university, the perils of social media and a selection of healthy school lunch ideas.
