Santa comes to visit Holy Rosary Grade 0 s
Holy Rosary Primary School Grade 0s were lucky to recently get a visit from Santa, all the way from the North Pole. The Grade 0s sang Christmas songs to him, sat on his knee and
had chats, and received a present from him.
Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital
celebrates its 1st Birthday
Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital celebrated its first birthday last month. On November 25,
2016, the hospital was officially unveiled by the Minister of Labour Mrs. Mildred Oliphant and the
Chairman of the Busamed Group, Dr Diliza Mji.
Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital is located in the lush Zendai Development of Mod-
derfontein City, in Linbro Park and is situated just off the Marlboro Drive off ramp. It is a 170-bed
private hospital which boasts impressive features and state of the art facilities.
This includes, for instance, the introduction of Africa’s first orthopaedic robotic surgery using the
MAKO Robotic Arm system, which provides a new level of accuracy for partial knee and total hip
replacement surgeries in Africa. Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital is the only facility to offer
this renowned technology on the African continent. Another exciting development is our success-
ful opening of its Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. This 15-bedded state-of-the-art unit compliments
our fast-growing multi-speciality facility. Dr Steve Ponde, Dr Porai Moshesh and Dr Greenwood
Sinyangwe heads up this specialised unit. We offer ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
treatment for Paediatric patients and the management of lung and heart diseases.
The Modderfontein Oncology Centre also specialises in using the most advanced technology in
radiation therapy used for treating cancer. This includes a RapidArc Varian Unique Linear Accelera-
tor, a new-generation tool that provides even greater speed and accuracy in treatment. Brachytherapy
is also available at the centre specifically for prostate, cervical and breast cancer treatment.
There are 61 resident specialists practising at this hospital, who together offer a wide range of spe-
ciality disciplines. Ms. Elsa Benade, Hospital Manager, says: “This Hospital is a perfect example of
a new gold standard of healthcare in South Africa. We offer more than health, with committed staff,
providing only the best in clinical and patient outcomes.’’

Obituary: Brendan McGhee
Brendan McGhee: 25 June 1970 – 8 November 2017
“Brendan was best known as the owner of the Ocean Basket in Eden
Meadows where great “feesh” and his friendly hospitality were legendary.
I met Brendan at his Ocean Basket a few years ago, and through our many
chats discovered that we shared a love of Pearl Jam, Harley Davidson
motorbikes and a passion for the community – especially Greenstone Hill.
Brendan offered his assistance for our first Community Clean-up Day and
soon became an integral part of the Greenstone Hill Community Team -
always quick to get involved with Community initiatives; endlessly kind,
supportive and generous with his time and with offers of Ocean Basket
sustenance for whatever project we were up to and always the first person
to volunteer help – nothing was ever too much trouble. His cheerfulness,
quick wit and big smile will be missed, and his passing has left a big gap
in the Greenstone Hill Community Team. To Brendan’s friends and family – Greenstone Community
extends their deepest condolences. He will be so missed by us all.” – Andrea Roberts, Greenstone
Hill Community
“And the sky breaks at dawn; shedding light upon this town. They’ll all come round. ‘Cause the man of
the hour is taking his final bow. Good bye for now.” – Man Of The Hour (Pearl Jam)
“A patriot of all our businesses at Eden Meadows. His sardonic sense of humour kept me on my toes.
He was my best friend. Always keen to help and lend support when it was needed. He will be so
missed.” – Janessa Jagganath, Perfect 10
“Brendan has been a great supporter of the newspaper and has advertised with us since September
2015. I probably owe him commission as he would happily punt our publication to any and all poten-
tial advertisers! He was also a great supporter of the community and would get involved at a moments
notice to assist wherever possible. In his restaurant, you could see that he garnered respect from his
staff, but at the same time you could tell he respected them too – something which is sadly lacking in
many bosses today. He was insistent that I bring my family around to his restaurant, the Ocean Basket,
but I always made sure that I went when he wasn’t in as I knew that he would not accept payment for
our meal, that’s just the kind of guy he was. He will be missed and our community has lost one of its
brightest lights.” – Gregg Cocking, The Greenstone Guide
