- Jennifer Worden
Worden.
From playing for the Holy Family
―Angels‖ to being a part of the Bay
State Magic, freshman phenomenon
Jennifer Worden always stands out.
Fans are astounded and excited by
her amazing plays and incredible
shots. People are starting to think
that she will be the next player to
reach the 1,000 point mark by her
senior year, following in the footsteps of Amanda Hawkesworth
(Class of 2013). Even though she‘s
new to the Abington school system, Worden has high expectations for herself. She maintains a
confident and positive attitude, knowing she can achieve her
goals.
While growing up, Worden was
surrounded by basketball. Many
family members, including her
father, played basketball. She
started young playing many hours
with the Abington Youth Basketball
Association (AYBA). Encouraged
by her father, Worden played with
them until fifth grade and then
moved on to more competitive
teams. ―My dad has been an assistant coach for every one of my
basketball teams besides the Abington varsity team. I wouldn‘t be
where I am today without him on
my other teams because he encouraged me and pushed me to do
things I never thought I could,‖ said
She attended Holy Family School
until transferring to Abington High
School her freshman year. While at
Holy Family, she played for their
Angels team. Worden also played
for the Bay State Magic, a competitive Amateur Athletic Union team.
―My dad and all my cousins played,‖
said Worden when asked what
inspired her to play basketball. She
says her favorite team to play for
so far has been the Abington Varsity team. ―They are a great team,
and I‘ve enjoyed making new
friends this year,‖ said Worden.
In just her first year with the team,
Worden is already the starting
point guard. Other teams
have heard how good she is and
know to watch out. Under the
direction of Coach Steve Moore,
and with many other players including Samantha Thompson,
Maura Hurley, Hanna Rogers, Erin
Foley, Molly Ferguson and Brianna
Donovan stepping their game up
too, the Abington Varsity team is
having a strong season and seems
ready to win the South Shore
League title and make a great playoff run.
Worden shared a few facts about
herself and her love for the game.
She desires to play college basketball after high school. Her favorite

ing the NBA. Her favorite team is
the Celtics and her favorite player
is Rajon Rondo. If she could spend
one day with a famous person she
would choose Michael Jordan. Worden`s lucky or favorite
number to play with is No. 15 (her
number on the Abington team.)
And, her role model is her father.
Although it may seem like her life is
filled with basketball Worden also
plays Varsity Soccer and plans on
trying out for the track team this
spring. She loves pasta and her
favorite subject is math.
Worden says her life goal is to play
pro basketball. With her dedication, skill, and the drive she gets
from her family and role models,
there is no doubt she will make her
dreams come true.

This year marks the third season the
Abington High School hockey team
stands on their own, no
longer combined with East Bridgewater as the EAB team. Last year‘s
seniors made up the very powerful
first line, leaving the Green Wave in
a knot this season. Two senior captains, Joe Marella and Jake Quinlan
have been carrying the team on their
back to lead them to success. Sean
Linehan and Chris Cook also provide
senior leadership. Junior Captain
Matt Curran also provides experience
and scoring ability up front. Veteran
Coach Brian Smith is behind the
bench. ―The season is going well, we
have a positive record and I hope we
maintain that,‖ said Joe Marella.
On the rise this year are sophomore
Anthony Chiavaroli and freshman
Kevin O‘Neil. They are stepping up
this year to help the team. Last year‘s
backup goalie Mike Morse is now the
team‘s starting goalie and has been
playing well. This year the
team faces new challenges like playing home and away against Quincy
who has the reputation of being
a well coached and talented team.
The boys also play the highly competitive South Shore League;
so every game is tough. So far the
team has pulled together to beat
tough competition like Cohasset,
Plymouth North and Mashpee. A
late season win over Lowell has
propelled them into the tournament. Hopefully, they can make a a
good post season run. Get out and
support the team!
