“Throne of Glass,” a Newer Young Adult Fantasy Series
Celaena is a cross between Cinderella and Katniss?
Caroline Bradbury
Staff Writer
Books like “Harry Potter,” “The
Hunger Games,” “Divergent,”
“The Maze Runner” and “City of
Bones” have captured the attention of teenagers for many years.
Now, author Sarah J. Maas has
created a completely new (first
book published in 2012) and
revolutionizing young adult fantasy series titled “Throne of
Glass.” It will change the game.
“Queen of Shadows,” the fourth
book in the series, was released
on September 1, debuting at
number two on the New York
Time’s best-selling list, a spot
rightfully earned.
Lightly based on Cinderella,
“Throne of Glass” follows Celaena Sardothien, a young assassin
recently thrown into the Endovier labor camp for committing
serious crimes that are revealed
later in the series and in “The
Assassin’s Blade,” a prequel. A
year into her life sentence,
Prince Dorian comes to free her
in exchange for her entry in the
King’s competition to become
his personal assassin. The story
unfolds from there in hundreds
of pages filled with magic, feminism, romance, intensity and
most profoundly, friendship. For
those who have read the series,
you know that any description of
the amazing world Maas has
created doesn’t do it justice. The
world-building and raw emotion
that Maas puts into her writing is
inspiring and makes everyone
relate to Celaena in some way.
In the most recent installment,
fans have been torn on the plot
twist concerning Celaena’s romantic relationships. Social media has been buzzing with opinions on Maas’ shocking decision
and predictions of where the
story will go next. The book was
captivating in its entirety and
isn’t predictable by any means.
Some readers have devoured this
novel in one sitting and are now
suffering through the year-long
wait for the fifth novel which is
rumored to come out at the
same time next fall.

Located at 399 Liberty Street in

inside. It was an old shoe factory, but
its days of fabricating soles and heels
are long gone. Instead, it has new

she wouldn’t mind an invite); Open

snacks all around and music. All in

not for the art, then at least for the
snacks.
