APRIL 29, 2014 SECONDARY STUDENT MAGAZINE Future 6: Create a Diversion This was the really exciting one – even more exciting than poison-tipped arrows. It would need to be something truly spectacular. Mrs Horton’s Ruined Greenhouse was community-wrenching enough to be reported in the local newspaper, so creating a big enough diversion to stop her from reacting with emotional blackmail of Colin’s parents and thus ruining Colin’s future happiness was quite a task. Colin indulged himself in several pleasant minutes of daydreams in which he blew up a damn, overturned an oil tanker on the A449, the closest dual carriage way, and set fire to the (empty, after working hours) local pet food factory. But no, Colin conceded, he just wasn’t that type of teenager. He fleetingly reverted to Future 2, not quite able to give up the idea of the arrows, then a glimpse back at Future 6 offered him his freezing point..... ! Future 7: Befriend Heinous Mutt who therefore Becomes Accomplice One of the beauties of this small, rural community was that Colin knew, amongst many other seemingly irrelevant details, that Tiddler hated and despised the locally made pet food. He did, however, have a ridiculously-indulged penchant for Ferrero Rocher. Colin shook himself, stood, stretched luxuriously, rolled his head on his neck to release the tension, and set off towards the Co-op, his future frozen into his new present. ! The Beautiful Game ! The sky was like a pool of water, so clear you could see your reflection in it! But the sun came splashing down on it creating ripples and piercing through the surface. It shone. Through the crispy clouds as if it was burning its way through. The light blazing from the sun was focussed on a magnificent green that had no present shadows just rays of sunlight forcing the neon green to absorb its rays until it breathed of life. Darkness surrounded this green that had the shape of a rectangle because it was protected by guards of walls. These walls fought off the darkness of outside which was coated by clouds above; blocking exposure to the sun. Outside there was nothing. Nothing of any interest. Just grey lifeless buildings. Roads leading no where. Boring civilization that showed no emotion. There were only faint sounds of life and colour that could be heard, but where was the source? Chanting, cheering, shouting, singing. It was all overflowing out and over the top of the walls. Scents of hot dogs, burgers, chips and drinks leaked out into the city and floated around attracting any sane person into the ground. They entered through tunnels, car parks and gates; buying tickets in order to pass and parading their way upstairs to the action. ! WWW.STANDREWSGREENVALLEY.COM !1 1
