Grace to be Made Whole
God Knows Your Name
So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing
that you have spoken; for you have found grace in
My sight, and I know you by name (Exodus 33:17)
The story of so many begins with dysfunctional
families, abuse, and distrust for those they love the
most. These are starting places for brokenness. Men
and women often operate as a fraction of which they
were created to be, because their past experiences
have created scars in their soul. Soul wounds, as
they are appropriately called, can be crippling to the
individual experiencing it. Soul injuries most often
happen during childhood, however the effects of
these injuries may lurk inside and reveal themselves only later in life (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006).
These injuries can interrupt many facets of an individual’s life. A wife may be heard
saying to her husband, “you only think about think about yourself”, or “you don’t ever listen to
me” because her husband forgot to pick up something from the store on the way home. Although her husband may need to be a bit more attentive, the main issue is this woman has been
let down by a loved one that should have been there without question.
A husband may display discontentment by exclaiming,
“you don’t respect me—nobody around her respects
me” or “you don’t ever listen to me—all you do is nag”
when his wife doesn’t acknowledge his opinion or feelings on an issue. His wife may need to give more room
to his opinions concerning the family, but the bigger issue is this husband felt disregarded by an important figure in his life long before his wife came along. Soul
wounds can even show up in parenting, work relationships, friendships—virtually any area in one’s life.
The good news about a soul wound is God can heal all.
God knows all of his children by name, and he wants them to be made whole. The woman with
the issue of the blood had seen many different physicians before her encounter with The Christ
(Luke 8:43-48). She could only be made whole by having a touch from God. The word of God
affirms, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalms 147:3). God knows
all of His children by name and He has not forgotten any. His will is that all will be saved, and
to be made whole. Know that His Grace is sufficient to make you whole—if you are willing to
reach out and touch Him.
