The Grace To Be Made Whole 2015 | Page 22

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: "Go down to the potter 's house, and there I will give you my message." So I went down to the potters house and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me: O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? declares the Lord. Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. (Jeremiah 18:1-6, The Holy Bible, New International Version, 1984, International Bible Society) As I read this scripture, I was reminded of God's love for us. I thought of the potter picking his clay. He does not consider the imperfections or whether there is a little grit mixed in, for he know through his gentle touch even the rough edges will be made smooth. When he has prepared his clay, he centers and open it to achieve the strongest foundation for his pottery. And he opens it so it can be pulled up as the wheel spins. Then the potter throws and trims his work. All the excess water is removed and it is allowed to dry. Then it is glazed and put in the fire to remove all the impurities. The pottery is now ready to be used. God is our potter. After we have toiled in this world of sin, when we finally come to him we are as a piece of marred clay in his hands. He does not worry about our imperfections. He takes us in the palm of his hands; and just as the potter, He centers us on His wheel of forgiveness and he begin to mold us into what He would have us to be. He knows that every now and then we may stumble and fall along the way. But when we come to him as an open vessel, when we falter he is there to pull us up and keep on shaping us... for there is a process to get to the finished work. And he trims us. He begin to peel away all our jealousy, envy, hatred, and all those other sinful things. And, he allows us to dry or learn to live in our new form. But, the process is not over. Every day we will be thrown in the fire, but with every test and every trial that we overcome we are purified. And one day, when this old life is over, we will be able to behold the finished product. Someone may ask, why not in this life time. My answer would be because we will always be a work in progress as long as we wear this flesh. When ever we became marred and disfigured, we can always go to the potters house and he will be waiting to put us back together again.
