The Gossamer Beacon Volume 1 The Wizard of OZ | Page 5

Welcome to our very first issue. I am excited to take this journey with you as we break new ground in the digital world. E-books are not new. There are many periodicals for children and even some very good ones aimed at getting them to read, but this offering has been carefully designed to be a sidekick in a shared journey with your child into the land of literature. As you thumb through the pages, you will find something wholly new.

This season we are delving into the land of OZ; the Technicolor dream that was so lovingly given to us by Frank L. Baum. Many across the world have become enamored with this tale, which became the inspiration for many movies, graphic novels, stage plays, spin-off series and much more.

This companion is not intended as fan fiction, or an annotated analysis of beloved classics. This issue of The Gossamer Beacon is a collection of OZ-inspired art, poetry, and original work. To distill down this magical story is the standard with which our magazine has been brought to you; this tale of Dorothy, a lost and lonely girl, who took on a witch, saved her friends and just wanted to get home. I hope you and your child can find yourselves believing animals can talk, in mechanical men, green glasses and the power of wishes….Marlo
