Chateau de Val Joanis Pertuis: You might think it would be hard to find a garden that matches the splendour of the Galon gardens but, visit the Chateau de Val Joanis in Pertuis and you’ll find yet more stunning beauty. Val Joanis is an area of 400 hectares including 100 vineyards with its heart in a castle, whose foundations are 16th century, set on a promontory surrounded by beautiful trees, some of which are over a century old. Cécile Chancel who lived there a few years ago always had a taste for garden design. Twenty years ago, people crowded to her door to admire her creations, drawings, plantation schemes. An admirable woman, she was tireless and enterprising, travelling the world but yet, the garden took shape under her guidance. Though she has given Val Joanis up for other adventures, her work remains the jewel of this dazzling domain. With a preserved vegetable and fruit garden, the air is sweetly perfumed and visits are easy. Adjacent to the vineyard shop, this garden is available to visitors during the summer when the shop is open. Val Joanis offers bottles in all three colors of wine and regularly wins awards in wine competitions. Though we advise to consume wine in moderation, visiting gardens do not require the same care.
