Autumn is also a time of paperwork for gîte owners.

It’s that time of year when you should re-visit all the holiday home portals that you advertise on and update and refresh the prices, photos and testimonials.

Enquiries are already coming in for next year so I’m behind the times and with some of the advertisement sites not coming cheap, I need to work out the return of investment for each and decide whether to continue to advertise.

But somewhere in amongst the pricing, the rubble, the cleaning, the painting and the admin we will find time to enjoy ourselves. Beef bourguignon, good local wine, some stunning sunsets and lots of great walks in our Jurassic woods collecting chestnuts, watching out for the mushroom foragers and gathering in the very last of the year’s produce. It is, after all, a place to relax. Isn’t it?
