British booze cruises making a comeback...

Thanks to a strong pound versus the Euro and the fact that wine in the UK is heavily taxed, British buyers are flocking to France to stock up on wine . In the UK tax duty is £2.05 for a bottle of wine (more for sparkling wine) plus VAT. In France the total duty is just 23 pence a bottle, bringing the price substantially down. With cheap day trip offers and some free returns offered by Calais wine merchants like Majestic – it’s a chance for Brits to make huge savings on wine orders.

Changes to the UK Driving License come into force on 8 June 2015 when the paper counterpart to the licence will no longer be valid and no new ones will be issued from that date. Instead a photocard licence will be issued and details will be recoded electronically by the DVLA but not shown on the card. This is likely to cause issues for those who need to hire a car as that requires a check by the company to make sure you have declared any motoring offences as part of the hire terms.

Hire car companies can check details on line if you provide your driving licence number, national insurance number and postcode www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
