House Rules: As of March 8 2015, the law requires that all homes in France must have at least one functioning smoke detector installed.

It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure this is done, so if you’re renting to someone, you need to make sure that a working, compliant smoke detector is installed. The tenant takes responsibility for maintenance and repair. You might not be covered by insurance if a fire breaks out and you don’t have a detector.

PARIS TO GO CAR FREE

Mayor Ann Hidalgo has announced via Twitter that Paris will be “car free” for a day on Sunday, September 27. No details have been released as at the time of publishing but it follows a trend as last year in March use of cars was restricted to cut pollution.

An announcement to ban wood fires in Paris has been overturned following widespread public protest.

Paris Museums say they will ban selfie-sticks. On the grounds of safety – both for people and for artworks visitors will be asked to leave their selfie-sticks behind – back to asking strangers to take photos of you then!
