Bethlehem gave $10,000 from its own budget, packaged it in
envelopes of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 increments, and passed
it out to adults, children and youth worshiping on March 22,
2015. Participants had six weeks to multiply the gift, but not for
Bethlehem’s sake. Coined the Good Life Challenge, we invited
people to support four existing outreach ministries: ZOOM House,
Urban Homeworks, Park Town School in Chennai, India, and a community
center in need of funding in Yerer, Ethiopia.
It was a risky move, a move that required faith. No one at
Bethlehem could guarantee that any money would come back on
May 3. Sure, people could have pocketed the $10,000. But maybe,
just maybe, the whole community would take the challenge
seriously and multiply the funds beyond their wildest imagination.
Challenge accepted. The money was multiplied with style. The
Bethlehem community found that taking a risk, being brave with
the gifts that God gives us, changes hearts.
