ZANTE CHECK IN
ΆΓΙΟΣ ΔΙΟΝΎΣΙΟΣ
Είναι ο προστάτης Άγιος της Ζακύνθου. Είναι ο μεγαλύτερος ναός
του νησιού και ένα από τα ελάχιστα κτίσματα που δεν κατέρρευ-
σαν από τους καταστροφικούς σεισμούς του 1953. Χτίστηκε το
1708 και βρίσκεται στο νότιο άκρο του λιμανιού στο κέντρο της
πόλης με το ψηλό καμπαναριό να δεσπόζει από μακριά. Εσωτερι-
κά, εντυπωσιάζουν οι τοιχογραφίες και οι επιβλητικοί πολυέλαιοι
ενώ δίπλα στο ναό στεγάζεται το νέο μουσείο-Σκευοφυλάκιο της
Ιεράς Μονής Στροφάδων και Αγίου Διονυσίου. Οι ντόπιοι τιμούν
τον Άγιο στις 17 Δεκεμβρίου και στις 24 Αυγούστου.
TEMPLE OF AGHIOS DIONISIOS
Saint Dionisius is the patron Saint of Zante. This is the largest temple
in the island and one of the few buildings that managed to survive
the disastrous earthquakes of 1953. It was built in 1708 and is
located at the southern edge of the port in the center of the town,
with the high bell tower overlooking the town. In the inner part, you
will be impressed by the murals and the imposing chandeliers, while
near the temple is housed the new museum-sacristy of the Holy
Monastery of Strofades and St. Dionisius. The locals honour the
Saint in 17th December and 24th August.
