Its Old Town is considered as
a living outdoors museum,
transferring the visitor from
today to yesterday. The house
of the great composer Manos
Chatzidakis, which has been
characterized as a work of art, is
also located there. Stone-paved
alleys and traditional houses,
historical neoclassical buildings
and small gardens travel us to
another time. In 1976 it was
declared a protected settlement
and since then it has preserved
its traditional form. Among
others, there you will find the
old Town Hall, one of the
most beautiful buildings in the
settlement. Every visitor must
certainly go to the Folklore
Museum. A journey to time
and tradition through objects,
costumes, musical instruments
and all kinds of relics. The true
character of the city is reflected
in its Saturday Bazaar, one of
the city’s must sees. Beyond its
commercial value, it is the best
way to mingle with the locals
and feel the pulse of the city.
The contemporary city of Xanthi
offers many choices for walks,
shopping and entertainment. A
living city, full of shops, squares,
parks, beautiful bars and many
cuisine suggestions, from small
taverns to famous restaurants.
