VISIT THE HOLY CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY In Kalambaka there are several small post-Byzantine churches with interesting murals and carved wooden temples. However, the most remarkable monument of the city, one that every visitor must see, is the Byzantine church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary which has immense importance to Byzantine and post-Byzantine art. The Temple is located at one of the highest and most visible spots in the old town of Kalambaka, has a magnificent view and was built between the 10th and 11th cen- turies on the ruins of an Early Christian basilica. Among other things, the, unique in Greece, marble pulpit, which rises imposingly in the center of the middle aisle in front of the Holy Gate, as well as the murals of the church dating from the 12th to the 16th century, are of exceptional interest. 73
