ANO SYROS
The settlement of the island that dates back to the Middle Ages with the castle walls, the
alleys, the arches, the 1.000 steps and the rambling uphill alleys make the walk unforget-
table! It was built during the Frankish domination (1207-1537), when Syros was subjugat-
ed together with other islands of the Cyclades by the Venetian dukedom of Naxos, which
led to the acceptance of the catholic doctrine by all people of Syros, even though they
preserved the Greek language. You will take hundreds of photos of beautiful entrances,
covered passages, balconies with bougainvilleas, corners in “theatrical” settings, small
churches and scattered picturesque taverns, while you will also be mesmerized by the
incredible view.
