VAPORIA
It is one of the most aristocratic neighborhoods of the Cyclades, in the eastern
part of Ermoupoli, which is filled with neoclassical buildings that emerge from
picturesque, narrow streets and mansions that belong to captains and that are built
on the edge of rocks with the Aegean Sea right underneath them. It was created by
wealthy refugees from Chios, Psara, Kasos and Crete, who came to Syros during the
Greek War of Independence in 1821 and the result is one of the most picturesque
settings of the island!
