Industrial museum
MUST VISIT
An island with a rich cultural tradition like
Syros is certain to have museums that walk
the visitor though its history! First of all
the Archaeological Museum, founded
in 1834, is one of the oldest museums
in Greece (daily except Mondays 09: 00-
16:00, admission €2, 7 Emmanuel Benaki
Str.). Equally interesting is the Industrial
Museum, which is housed in 4 industrial
buildings of the 19th century, the Kornilaki
Tannery, the Anairoysi Skagiopoieio (used
to make lead pellets) , the Velissaropoulou
Weaving Mill and the Katsimandis Paint
Factory (Mon.- Fri. 10:00-15:30, Sat. 10:00-
15:30 & 18:00-20:00, Sun. 10:00-15:00,
admission €2). The Exhibition of Copies of
Cycladic Art, hosted at the Cultural Center
of Ermoupolis also worths a visit (open daily
during the summer months in the morning &
the afternoon, free admission) as well as the
Ecclesiastical Museum which is hosted at a
hall near the Church of Agios Nikolaos (daily
09:00-14:00, free admission).
