ΟΧΥΡΟ ΡΟΎΠΕΛ
Σε απόσταση 42 χλµ. από τις Σέρρες, το Οχυρό Ρούπελ αποτελεί κοµβικό κοµµάτι
της ελληνικής Ιστορίας και ένα σημαντικό μνημείο. Είναι ένα από τα µεγαλύτερα και
πιο γνωστά οχυρά, στη συνοριακή γραµµή της Ελλάδας µε τη Βουλγαρία, το οποίο
δηµιουργήθηκε µεταξύ 1913 και 1914, ύστερα από εντολή του Μεταξά, µε σκοπό να
εµποδίσει τη διέλευση εχθρικών στρατευµάτων κατά τον Α’ Παγκόσµιο Πόλεµο, ενώ
έπαιξε και σηµαντικό ρόλο και κατά τον Β’ Παγκόσµιο. Στο κτήριο «Ήχος και Φως»
θα παρακολουθήσετε, µέσα από ένα οπτικοακουστικό σύστηµα, παρουσίαση της
µάχης των οχυρών. Περιηγηθείτε επίσης στους χώρους του Στρατιωτικού Μουσείου
(Καθημερινά 09:00 - 13:00, www.roupel.gr).
RUPEL FORTRESS
At a distance of 42 km from Serres, the Rupel Fortress is a very important part of Greek
history and an important monument. It is one of the largest and most famous for-
tresses, at the borderline of Greece with Bulgaria. It was built during 1913-1914, with
orders from Metaxas, aiming at stopping the passage of enemy armies during the First
World War, while it also played an important role during the Second World War. At
the «Sound and Light» building you will get the chance to watch, through an audiovis-
ual system, a presentation of the battle of the fortresses. Don’t forget to also wander
in the spaces of the Military Museum (Open daily 09:00 - 13:00, www.roupel.gr).
