Το µεγαλοπρεπές Ιερό Ησυχαστήριο Τιµίου
Προδρόµου στο Ακριτοχώρι Σερρών (50 χλµ.
από την πόλη) χτίστηκε το 1981 και είναι ένα
από τα πιο πολυάριθµα της Ελλάδας, µε 45
µοναχές. Γιορτάζει στις 29 Αυγούστου. Έχει
πανοραµική θέα στη λίµνη Κερκίνη, ενώ το
πράσινο του όρους Μπέλες το κατακλύζει...
Πρόκειται για µια µικρογραφία κοινωνίας που
πίσω από τα τείχη, ένα τοπίο, γραφικό και
όµορφο. Χτίστηκε εξ ολοκλήρου από παραδο-
σιακά δοµικά υλικά, ενώ η Αγία Τράπεζα είναι
αγιογραφηµένη από τις ίδιες τις µοναχές. Ο
ναός (500 τ.µ) είναι ακριβές αντίγραφο του πα-
λαιού Καθολικού της Ι. Μ. Ξενοφώντος (10ου
αι.). Η ηρεµία του τοπίου, οι εικόνες, η εγκάρδια
φιλοξενία και η ενέργειά του κάνουν τον χρόνο
να µοιάζει πως σταµατά. Μεταξύ άλλων, θα
δείτε το παλιό ελαιοτριβείο, µε πολλά από τα
αντικείµενα να είναι πλέον µουσειακά εκθέµατα.
Η µοναστική αδελφότητα ασχολείται µε την ιε-
ροραπτική, την αγιογραφία καθώς και µε γεωρ-
γικές και κτηνοτροφικές εργασίες. Αξίζει να το
επισκεπτεί κανείς και ιδιαίτερα οι γυναίκες που
δεν µπορούν να επισκεφθούν το Άγιον Όρος
αφού θα πάρουν µια ιδέα της αγιορείτικης
βυζαντινής αρχιτεκτονικής και του ασκητικού
τρόπου ζωής (Τ. 23230 71189, 71036).

The magnificent Holy Retreat of Timios
Prodromos in Akritochori of Serres (50
km away from the city) was built in 1981
and is one of the most multitudinous in
Greece, with 45 monasteries. It celebrates
on August 29. It s offers a panoramic view
to Kerkini lake, while the green of mount
Belles overwhelms its every corner. It is a
thumbnail of society, behind whose wall, a
landscape, picturesque and beautiful. It was
built entirely out of traditional structural
materials, while the hagiographies of the
Altar were made by the nuns themselves.
The temple (500 sq.m.) is a precise replica
of the old Catholic of the Holy Monastery
of Xenophon (10th century). The serenity of
the landscape, the breathtaking images, the
heartily hospitality and the energy of the
place will make time seem to stop. Among
others, you will see the old oil press, with
many of its objects being now museum ex-
hibits. The nun sorority employs itself with
holy sewing, hagiography, as well as with
farming and husbandry activities. It is worth
visiting it, especially for women, who can-
not visit the Holy Mountain, since here they
will get an idea of the Athonian Byzantine
architecture and the ascetic way of living. (Τ.
