They say that love passes through the
stomach. Love for Kavala, certainly
at first sight for the visitors, is binded
by the local delicacies and products.
You will have an unforgettable
gastronomic journey in this blessed
land that hides tastes unaltered by
time. Kavala’s well “hidden” secret
is a sweet temptation known to the
entire Greece, the qurabiyas of Nea
Karvali. The reputation following
this sugar-sprinkled delicacy is not
accidental. Descending from Kap-
padokia, the globetrotting recipe
was brought to Kavala by refu-
gees. Apart from these all-white
viands, at the shelves of traditional
product stores you will also find a
wealth of spoon desserts, such as
fig and walnut. Desserts prepared
at the time of each fruit’s ripening,
with recipes that pass from one
generation to the next. Kavala,
one of the largest fishing centers in
Greece, couldn’t miss offering fresh
fish and seafood. The picturesque
fish taverns of the area offer dishes
made by local Macedonian recipes.
Departing from fish, Kavala is also
renowned for its especially tasteful
potatoes produced in Lekani, the
place where every year, at the first
Sunday of September, the “Feast
of Potato” is being held. Equally
unique and tasty are Kavala’s chest-
nuts, especially those produced
by Palaiochori of Paggaio, where
every October the connoisseurs
rush to the “Feast of Chestnut”.
Last but not least...it is well known
that Kavala is also famous for its
wineries and fine wines some of
them being
really popular!
