tected the island’s inhabitants in times
of need. This architectural masterpiece
was ruined in 1865 due to an explosion
of munitions in its basement, with the
only «survivors» being the towers of the
entrance. Fortunately, during the Italian
Occupation (1912-1948), Commander
De Vecci decided not only to reconstruct
it, but to preserve its original form. To-
day, it may be far from the original build-
ing of the Knights; however, you will be
impressed by everything left behind: the
mosaic floors, the 16th century furniture
and the statues...
