TERPSITHEA SQUARES It is one of the most popular and important squares of Piraeus, located in a key point. It actually consists of four squares, two on the main Heroon Politechniou street and two under the road, to the port. The project’s plan dates back to 1835 and was designed by architects Kleanthis and Schaubert. In the part, it connected two different ports, the commercial port with Pasalimani, the tourist port of Piraeus, as a result, the people of the port, Troumba, with the middle class. The upper squares are characterised by vegetation, palm trees, flowers and the statues of Iro Kosntantopoulou, a heroine of the National War of Defense (a work of sculptor Nikolas), and the statue of Panagiotis Vlachakos. On the back stands majestically Christopoulou neoclassic building. The two squares are divided by Defteras Merarchias street. On the lower Terpsithea squares, you can find a neat playground and on the opposite side there is a lot of green and a small pond with ducks. 77
