HISTORY MOMENTS-THE FACTORY In 1999 it stopped operating. This was the beginning of the discussion about its demolition and tourist use of the building, an idea that provoked objections and demonstrations. In fact, the National Technical University of Athens and the Regulative Plan Organisation of Athens made proposals about the urban planning development of the place that didn’t fall on fertile ground. Despite the opposite opinions and efforts made by the responsible bodies to characterise the buildings as listed, the largest part of the plant was demolished, while in 2013 it was razed completely. The first cove after the Plant is called the cove of the Slaughterhouses (“Sfagia” in Greek), as this is where the slaughterhouses of Piraeus where located and the next cove is the cove of Drapetsona. 110
